GIMP
is the open source equivalent of Adobe Photoshop. In Photoshop, macros called "actions" help automate the image creation process. In GIMP, "script-fu" macros are included with the default installation to create spectacular logos. These macros can be very useful for Joomla! template designers since they instantly render beautiful text-based graphics. Here you'll find a gallery of the default logo macros.
Gimp is available for free download on the GIMP site (http://www.gimp.org/) or with a Photoshop-like interface as GimpShop (http://gimpshopdotnet.blogspot.com). It is capable of many of the same advanced features as Photoshop.
Unfortunately, the script-fu macros that generate logos are simply listed as menu selections -- providing no visual que of how each logo will appear until you execute the rendering. I've created this quick reference page showing a rendered example of each logo script-fu included with the default installation.
