Why don't my preferences in the Article Manager work? I set the global preferences (such as Show Title and hide Author Name) by clicking the Preferences button in the Article Manager, but they don't seem to work and I have to change the settings on each individual article.

While the global settings are configured in the Preferences window, a menu can override them. Therefore, you need to adjust the settings of the menu that connects to the content item to Use Globals.

In the Administrator interface, select the Menus > Main Menu option to display the items contained in the main menu (the most likely source of your problem). In the default installation, the primary menu is called Home, so click on that link to display the Menu Item: [Edit] screen. On the right-side of the screen, expand the Parameters - Component pane and set the Use Global option for all of the parameters as shown in the figure below. Now all of the content items display by this menu item (which includes the Frontpage) will use the global Preference settings.
